Wilts & Dorset/

DAF DB250 / Northern Counties Palatine #3150

11 august 2008 - Poole, Dorset, UK - Sandbanks ferry. The bus to Bournemouth is seen during its crossing, behind a coach. This is the open sea, not a small river, and the water can become very rough at times. Passengers normally stay on the bus, but you can get off and walk around on the boat if you wish.

11 august 2008 - Poole, Dorset, UK - Sandbanks ferry. The voyage is compete and the bus can now continue to Bournemouth. Line 50 runs all year round, but closed buses are used during the winter months.

DAF DB250 / Northern Counties Palatine #3152

13 august 2009 - Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset (UK). A sea-going bus! Line 50 from Bournemouth to Swanage runs every 30 minutes and the ferry boat about every 20 minutes. Although the bus has a priority lane to reach the ferry, other traffic is very heavy in summer, so the bus often runs very late and the ferry leaves without it (making it lose even more time on the schedule)..

13 august 2009 - Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset (UK). Buses using the Sandbanks ferry have to be specially modified at the back end to clear the steep ferry ramps. A bus bound for Swanage is seen here just leaving to continue its journey.

DAF DB250 / Northern Counties Palatine #3157

11 august 2008 - Poole, Dorset, UK - Sandbanks. This bus is clearly waiting for something - the driver checks his watch. But why must he wait here? Even on a miserable, grey day like this, the English passengers prefer to ride outside - they must be mad......(and cold).

11 august 2008 - Poole, Dorset, UK - Sandbanks ferry. This is why the bus is waiting - a ferry crossing. I don't know of any other place where an open-top bus (complete with passengers) goes to sea. Line 50 service is frequent - in the distance, another bus is already waiting for the return trip.

13 august 2008 - Bournemouth, UK - The Square. Even on a very wet day such as this, British people don’t care about the weather and still ride on the open top deck, like these idiots! Wilts and Dorset (a very old and traditional company name in this area, but now a new operator) runs the long-distance routes in and out of Bournemouth. This bus has come along the south coast from Swanage.

10 august 2009 - Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset (UK) – an older Wilts and Dorset open-topper leaving the ferry. This picture shows how steep the ramps are.
