As far as I remember every driver has his own tram out there - hence twice as many trams needed than there are in service at any given time.
Apparently this isn't now the case - We were told this year that each tram is 'common user' to a much greater extent, (although most drivers have their favourites and always try to use them).
I remember this being because different German cities turn their controllers in different directions - some brake by turning to the left, some to the right. This is why e.g. in Grudziadz they have separate driver pools for different ex-German cars. I thought this is also why they assigned an 'owner' to each tram in Arad.
