6 march 2010 - London Borough of Camden, Holborn / Theobald's Road. And here we have a perfect example of why Arriva got taken over by Deutsche Bahn. They are the biggest company within the TfL network, and it is also one of the smaller companies within the Big 5 (Arriva, First, Go-Ahead, Stagecoach, NatEx) outside of London. The profit margins in London are much smaller than in the deregulated 'provinces', whereas the market is less safe due to the tenders, where Arriva sometimes wins, and sometimes loses. Plus there's the vehicle procurement policy, which... doesn't exist! When they threw themselves into the tender for route 242 they completely didn't think about the vehicles. As a result, the route is served by Wrights on Volvo chassis, Enviro 400 on Dennis chassis, and older Wrights hauled in from other depots. Maybe the Germans will create some sort of order in all this mess?
