Karosa B731.1661 #620

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Ante Babića. And I'd like to say goodnight for today with this photo of a rusty war-reconstruction-aid Karosa. Next episode tomorrow :D

Gräf & Stift SL172HO M12 #4429

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Austrijski trg. There is a total of 4 windows that can be opened in the whole bus - just the ticket for these temperatures...

Tatra K2YU #277

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Obala Kulina bana. The Tatra will sadly lose the race, because it's got to stop at a tram stop:(

Tatra K2YU #236

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Vjecnica. Another nice place for a minaret-motif. On the right the ruins of the library, torched by the Serbs at the beginning of the war. The catalogue of this library contained over 2 million works...

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Vjecnica. This tiny square is the terminus for route 31E. The A/C didn't work - of course...

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Bulevar Mimar Sinana. First time I've seen an N4020 with such doors. Any ideas where it could have come from?

25 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Marsala Tita. Route 31E operates on a commercial basis - you just pay the driver when boarding. 31E runs as an express route from the centre to the estates of Alipasino Polje and Dobrinja, and is served by the only two "skateboards" in the city, which happen to be the only two low-floor buses here. This one is much more exotic than the other one :)

Tatra K2YU #276

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, ul. Marsala Tita. Such scary ones can still be found in revenue service, albeit few and far between. Once they get the E1 Viennese up and running that'll be the end of these.

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. Two technical viennese cars and a snowplough that gets attached to them. Hope you don't mind the sloppy composition :)

Tatra K2YU #238

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. That's probably what the K2s looked like after the war. Fortunately, very few of them show themselves on the streets in this state.

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS Depot. On the left some discarded cars, on the right a Satra-to-be :)

Lohner c1 #4006

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. Lots of 4-axle Vienna cars on the left and red 6-axle ones on the right. Anyone got any idea what the correct type of those on the left is?

Tatra K2YU #509

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. In this small hall GRAS mechanics turn Tatra K2s into Satra II (single articulation) or Satra III (with low-floor section), using components from PARS Nova in the Czech Rep. If I remember correctly, there are already 10 lengthened vehicles in service, with two low-floor sections ready for installing outside the depot hall.

Tatra K2YU #271

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. This is the day-to-day maintenance hall.

PCC #71

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. After WWII Sarajevo received PCC trams from Washington, DC, which served the inhabitants of the Bosnian capital for a good few years afterwards. These vehicles had a great deal of influence on public transport - the track gauge was widened especially for them from 1000 to 1435mm, and their successors from CKD were built with the pantograph at the rear.

Tatra K2YU #288

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS depot. That's what a classic Sarajevo tatra looks like - yellow, wavy sides and a pantograph at the back with a trolleybus-like rope :)

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, GRAS tram depot. Thanks to the linguistic skills of author No. 59 we were able to get inside the fence. Thanks to him and to the manager of the depot for showing us round!

Lohner E #703

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Željeznička Stanica. Bartek got a K2 hier, I waited for the Wiener. They bought quite a few of these, but the only one we saw on the streets is this one doing trials.

Mercedes-Benz O405GT #492

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Terminal Ilidža. Just like its brothers from Essen in Chimki near Moscow, this duobus will likewise not feel the kick of electricity running through its poles.

Tatra K2YU #231

24 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Bulevar Meše Selimovića. The Tatra is just passing track which diverge hire in the direction of Dobrinja. Does anyone know if this route was never rebuilt after the war or did it just stop its construction?

Tatra K2YU #210

23 august 2007 - Sarajevo, Baščaršija. A typical Sarajevo motif with a minaret. I was generally well impressed with the levels of religious tolerance out there - mosques stand next to catholic churches, mixed cemeteries, and streets with groups of girls dressed either in shorts (it was 36 degrees out there!) and headscarves alike. BTW: is this one straight? :P
